About
Mitsubishi Eclipse

The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a sports car that was produced by Mitsubishi Motors from 1989 to 2011. It was initially introduced as a compact, front-wheel-drive coupe and later evolved into a larger, more powerful vehicle with all-wheel drive options.

The first generation of the Eclipse, launched in 1989, featured a sleek and aerodynamic design, which was a result of Mitsubishi’s collaboration with Chrysler Corporation. It was available with a range of engine options, including naturally aspirated and turbocharged four-cylinder engines.

The second generation, introduced in 1995, brought significant updates to the Eclipse. It had a more aggressive and angular design and offered more powerful engine choices, including the well-known 4G63T turbocharged engine in the performance-oriented GSX model. The second-generation Eclipse also marked the introduction of the convertible variant called the Eclipse Spyder.

The third generation, launched in 2000, featured a more curvaceous and modern design. It offered various engine options, including a naturally aspirated four-cylinder and a V6 engine. During this generation, Mitsubishi introduced the high-performance Eclipse GT and Eclipse GTS models, which featured a more powerful V6 engine and sport-tuned suspension.

In 2006, the fourth and final generation of the Eclipse was introduced. It featured a radical redesign, moving away from its previous sporty coupe image and adopting a more muscular and aggressive appearance. The fourth-generation Eclipse was available with a V6 engine, while the GS model had a four-cylinder engine.

After 2011, Mitsubishi discontinued the Eclipse and shifted its focus towards SUVs and electric vehicles. There have been no further updates or new generations of the Eclipse since then.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse had a significant presence in popular culture, thanks in part to its appearances in movies, video games, and the tuner car scene. It remains a recognizable name in the automotive world, particularly among enthusiasts who appreciated its sporty styling and performance-oriented variants.
